Every year we all get each other a few gifts. It's my husband, myself (obviously) and my two sons who are now college freshman. They earned a bit of money and still got gifts even though we told them they didn't have to do that. We always go to Christmas Eve service at church and then hand each other our stockings (which we all put something in each other's stocking) and then we talk and drink cocoa, have a fire in the fireplace, etc. The next morning the boys will hand each person a gift and we all watch each other as we open them. Both of my sons have a wacky sense of humor and end up writing novels on their tags such as... to Dad from your wonderful son, the one who blah blah blah. It's just cute. Then we all hang out together and play games or watch a movie, etc. My email is joyfulhutch[at]msn[dot]com
ReplyDeleteWe go down to my sister's, as my mom is in assisted living now. Most everyone is able to come. We are battling the snowstorm coming in. It's such a delight to see my family, especially my nieces and nephews. They grow so fast. And we have a new baby due in January!!! A girl!!!!!! So that's even more exciting!
ReplyDeleteI follow by email.
I would choose Raising Rain as a first choice, then Gun Lake.
Have a Blessed Christmas!!! And thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

My family's Christmas is different every year. The one thing we remain consistent in, however, is to pray. We do everyday but especially when our larger family is gathered, Christians and non, and we always ask that a prayer is spoken over the food. I also work at a grocery store, a tad busy during this season, and I try to wear something to remind others why it is we celebrate this holiday; if it's not a button or pin, it's always on my sleeve and in my heart. He has so richly blessed us!

My family all gather together for food, fun, and fellowship. Before exchanging gifts we read the story of Christ's birth. I follow via RSS.

I always read the Christmas story from Luke 2 on Christmas Eve, usually after attending a Christmas Eve service. WordLily AT gmail DOT com I follow via RSS. I'd love to win Pearl in the Sand.
ReplyDeleteWe read the Christmas story from Luke 2 and attend a mid-night Christmas Eve service welcoming the birth of Christ our Lord and Savior. The small children are allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve after we come back from service. Then it's off to bed and we begin Christmas morning with hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls and thankful prayers before diving into the Christmas gifts!

Merry Christmas!

This year we are North Dakota, so we're having a white Christmas.
ReplyDeleteUsually we would have gone to the Christmas Eve service at church, but we spent it in the urgent care since my nine month old daughter was sick with what turned out to be a double ear infection and a sore throat.
Today, the rest of the family will come over to grandma and grandpas, we will eat a fantastic meal, and before any presents are opened, we will read the Christmas story with the youngest member of the family (my daughter) on grandpa's lap.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to win, and have a Merry Christmas!

I'd love to win! My husband and I celebrate Christ each year by entering into a conscious season of thoughtful prayer this time of year. We also give each other only 3 gifts to symbolize the gifts of the Magi and to avoid materialism. We plan to continue this tradition when we have children as well. :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and grandchildren live in VA and I live in Long Island NY. Unfortunatly we're unable to get together for the hoilidays, so I was home.

This year has been special for me. This was the first year after been apart from my daughters for over 6 years we were reconciled, praise God. God is faithful to His word. While we enjoyed the food there is nothing greater than families coming together to celebrate the birth of Christ and the reconciliation of broken relationships.
ReplyDeleteChrist comes to restore
We live within walking distance from one of our sons and his 5 children. We met them at church for a Christmas Eve service then went to their house for lunch. The children are reminded why we celebrate Christmas as we pray for the meal. Three of them gave their lives to Christ during this past year and were baptized. Santa comes for the young ones, but Jesus is the reason we celebrate and they are all quick to express that. We find it a joy and a blessing to be able to spend the holiday with this family. My email address is leachman@comcast.net.
ReplyDeleteWe let the children open the gifts on Christmas Eve that were purchased for them. Then on Christmas Day they wake up and have all the many wonderful gifts that Santa has brought them. But, we love to also watch all the Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel that have Jesus' messages shining through. On Christmas Day, we have a holiday cake or cupcake and we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. My kids absolutely adore all of the Christ for Christmas traditions that we do!

My children are young, but we do a special advent book and each day put a piece of "hay" in the manger to prepare it for Jesus. This year I also made a Jesse Tree to help teach about how God had always prepared us for Jesus.
ReplyDeletehttp://livelearnlove226.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-is-upon-us.html if you are interested in reading more about what we do.
We celebrate Christ by reading the story of Jesus' birth in the gospel of Luke. My children are young so we are limited in the volunteer opportunities I'd like to do. But they go through their toys and select three gently used items to be donated to a local shelter.
ReplyDeleteI love learning how families celebrate differently! I know for many people Christmas is a joyous occasion but for many others it is a difficult season, and I thank you for sharing honestly about where you are this year. Thank you! And may God bless you in this New Year, and continue to be your Emmanuel, God With Us in the midst of everything else!
ReplyDeleteTo our family it's never been about the gifts, it's being together and celebrating the season. Unfortunately we weren't able to be together this year because I came down with a bad stomach virus and ended up spending Christmas alone while my family celebrated without me. I wouldn't have taken a chance on infecting them, we have too many babies in the family. So I saw them all a few days after Christmas. I got well just in time to be with my sister at the hospital yesterday while she got her hip replaced,so I'm thankful I could be there for her.

I do not celebrate, but try to follow Christ every day. And tell others all about him too.

Christmas to us means contacting family and friends who we don't see or hear from during the year. The most important contact for me is my son who is living and working in Shanghai, China. It is difficult to make that connection because he is usually out in the field and they are a day ahead of us.

Well, I don't celebrate Christmas, but I hope my entry will still count. We believe in remembering Christ's birth, and if anyone asks us about it, we would gladly share. Why don't we celebrate it, then? We've heard the origins came from pagan festivities...and things still get a little self-serving on many Christmases. Some of my family does celebrate it, though, and they send out cards talking about Christ, etc. Perhaps there is a good way to celebrate it, but my conscience (and my mom) won't let me right now.
